I have an 85 GTi with the 1.8 CIS-E engine.  10:1 compression with knock
sensor.  Have always used the cheapest 87 octane gas around, except when
autocrossing, when I try to run it out and put in a few gallons of the
highest I can find.  Have had no fuel system or engine problems.  Bought the
car with 93 k miles on it, now has 201k miles.
