<SNIP> Subject: Re: fresh air/heat sliders The European manufacturers never could figure out car ventilation systems, and only recently are they getting better. I think they just figured you could open the windows. Invariably they are poorly thought out and confusing. The Vanagon, however, wins the prize for the most obtuse controls and documentation I've ever encountered. <SNIP> Oh come now!!!! They are easy to figure out. Just memorize this little rhyme. The top lever defrosts your feet, with fresh air from below, how neat! The next lever controls the fan, far away in someone else's van. The red knob blends with the blue, the air the blows at your shoe. The blue knob closes the bend, that defrosts the crossover blend. The bottom knob cools your right foot, unless it's already cooked. The fresh air return can be found, by rolling your right window down. And the lever off to the left, controls the NOISE from all that are left. So remember, when the controls have you beat... Be glad you have a Boxer WITH HEAT! Seriously folks, it may as well be common knowledge that the R&D department that made the Vanagon air controls was mostly made up of disgruntled AIR COOLED ex-engineers. And they figured if they couldn't have heat, then the WasserBoxers didn't deserve them either. (It's a deeply routed Germanic thing, all started by some ex-monk in Munich I believe) Anyway when in doubt, all knobs to the right warms your van... all knobs to the left does something else!
