Leaking brake fluid on the carpet is a sure sign that it's the master cylinder that's gone south. If that's not the case, then the slave is suspect, though I'd get under there and check. Might as replace them both at the same time since the experience is that they both tend to go bad at the same time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Tom Young tomyoung1@home.com Lafayette, CA 94549 '81 Vanagon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rod Smith" <rodwreck@se-tel.com> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2001 10:27 AM Subject: Slave or Master? > HI; > My Clutch went out on me this morning > as I was getting to work. > Is there an easy way to tell whether it's > the clutch master cylinder or the slave > cylinder that needs replaced? > I don't want to replace them both If I > don't have to. > Thanks; > Rod
