Carl and List,
I just removed my door speakers recently, and I fought with them for a while
too.  I removed them by sticking a folding allen wrench into the holes in
the speaker grill, unfold 2 of the wrenches so you have a 2-prong tool, and
hold the back of the speaker with your hand, and turn the 2- prong tool
around and it unscrews the front of the speaker without destroying it.
