Subject:'85 A/C Hi/Lo Valves

I have an '85 Westy that has the two service valves  on the lines that
enter the back of the A/C compressor.   One valve is on the line which is
closer to the center of the compressor.  I would assume it is the low side?
I have had this thing for almost two years and am now just getting around
to the A/C.  The compressor does not come on, I am assuming it is low on
freon.  PO said, "It works, it just needs freon."
