I've asked a few VW tranny guys about this and all said no problem. Well maybe one problem. $$$$$ The Vanagon 2WD has close to a 50-50 weight distribution front to rear. That is why they fair so poorly offroad compared to 4WD and T2s. The Syncro tranny has another advantage, drastically lower reverse and granny gears. Mark
