I don't know what part of the country you're from, but out here where I live in AZ, they kind of assume 4x4 for off roading, so if it says impassable when wet, I wouldn't count on getting a 4x4 through too easily. A lot of roads around here are ALWAYS impassable for many two wheel drive vehicles. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Kasper" <dragonlist@IPMTS.UCSC.EDU> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 8:23 AM Subject: Re: trip report: Utah backcountry > richard, excellent site. i showed it to my wife last night, and we > discussed our summer trip plans in light of your trip. looks like we're > going to reverse your part between durango and hall's creek overlook, > roughly, on our way from santa fe to zion. > > does anyone familiar with that area in the summer recommend against driving > it? i worry about bentonite gumbo underwheel and flash floods, both > courtesy of summer thunderstorms. looking at my maps there are quite a few > roads marked "impassable when wet". impassable for a syncro? > > tia. > > bill > '87 syncro westfalia > http://www.scruznet.com/~kasper/pics/westy/ >
