Discontinued by the manufacturer.  Probably never coming back again. Once
VW's stock is gone they aren't likely to have them anymore either. The type
1 engine thermostat can be made to work with only minor modification.  It
was covered either on the Vanagon or, more likely, the type2 list a while
back; search the archives.
