Thx to all you guys who responded to my problem of the intermittent sputtering problem of taking off from a standing start.  The problem did not occur all the time and did not occur every day.  It seemed more likely to occur on hot days.
My solution:  add fuel cleaner to tank of gas; and replace the fuel filter.  Today I tested the van in hot weather (95 degrees) under stress with lots of stop and go driving as well as freeway driving.  IT'S RUNNING GREAT-today!!  I'll see how it does over the next few days.
