As I drove into Precision Auto Tune in Palo Alto this morning
to get my wife's Carat its bi-annual the smog test, the service
writer greeted me with:
"I dunno...sounds like it's missing. Probably won't pass..."
Not exactly very encouraging words. I told him that Vanagons
(at least mine) have a lumpy idle and that I was sure that this
particular vehicle would pass with flying colors (having
personally performed a tune-up, oil change and a number of
coolant leak fixes, as well as setting the timing and idle speed
a few weeks ago...).
After the test, he said:
"Looks like it passed after all! We had one in here earlier in the
week that..."
Here are the numbers:
2500 rpm
MAX allowable Average Measured Result
HC ppm 0180 0020 0024 PASS
CO % 1.00 00.10 0.00 PASS
CO2 14.6
O2 .2
RPM 2527
IDLE RPM
MAX allowable Average Measured Result
HC ppm 0120 0030 0023 PASS
CO % 1.00 00.10 0.03 PASS
CO2 14.3
O2 0.6
RPM 0890
Wonder what the results would have been with a fresh O2 sensor?
Oh, yeah...the Carat has 109K miles on it.
