Hi Rachel,

First off if you are using the 12 mm multi-point socket type of bolts these
are not meant to be re-used. Second is that I have used the Clymer method
and had an oil leak. I just used the Bentley method on the advice of Joe
Romas. So far the results from the Bentley method are much better. Anyway
here are the two methods for you to decide.

Sequence:

10, 4, 2, 6, 8
7, 5, 1, 3, 9
First bolt to be tightened is the middle one on the injector side. Last
bolt (10) to be tightened end bolt on the air cleaner side.

According to the Bentley manual:

1. With the engine cold, torque cylinder head bolts in sequence in the
following steps:
First to 30 ft lb
Second to 44 ft lb
Third to 55 ft lb
2. After the third step turn bolts in sequence with a breaker bar 180
degrees further (two 90 degree turns are ok)
3. Run engine until it reaches normal operation temperature ( radiator fan
starts running)
4. Stop engine and re-tighten head bolts in sequence 90 degrees further
with a breaker bar without first loosening them.
5. After about 1000 miles (with the engine cold or warm) re-tighten
cylinder head bolts with a breaker bar, turning bolts in sequence 90
degrees without loosening them and without interruption.

According to the Clymer manual:

1. With the engine cold, torque cylinder head bolts in sequence in the
following steps:
First to 35 ft lb
Second to 50 ft lb
Third to 65 ft lb
2. Run engine until it reaches normal operation temperature ( radiator fan
starts running)
3. Stop engine and re-tighten head bolts to 65 ft lb in sequence.
4. After about 1000 miles loosen each bolt 30 degrees and re-tighten each
bolt to 65 ft lb before loosening the next bolt.

Have fun, and watch your knuckles.
