Subject:Deciphering Coolant Temp Guage

Listees-

Now that I put the new lower temp fan switch in as well as 80 degree
t-stat in my 84 1.9L westy (yeah, I am paranoid about overheating), I am
wondering where the temp guage (on dash) ought to be. Depending on
outside temp, where is the normal zone and when should we start to worry
and put on heaters or pull off? I have noticed while driving around in
60-70 degree weather that the needle is right at or just barely to the
left of the LED in the center. In stop-and-go situations it goes up
about halfway between LED and far right of guage. I have taken some
steep climes and seen the needle almost at the far right ----scary! Does
all this sound normal on a 1.9L wbx westy? Thanks for indulging by
compulsion to know more!
