Working on an AC system without gauges is like walking with your eyes
closed.

Yes, it sounds like your system is low on 134, but how low?
If you add too much of a charge you could stall the compressor.
I would suggest simply taking it to a AC service guy, or poping for some
gauges to find out where your system stands, prior to adding anything.

It's the right way to do it.
