Rod, i for one would definately keep the flaps. i know on my van, the lack of flaps has led to many an hour spent with a pressure washer after romps about the fireline trails. BUT, make sure that you keep water out of the mounting holes or rust will start happening. good luck, -sudhir Sudhir H.
