Syncros have plastic tanks but 2wd vans have steel tanks.

Thank you one and all for all the info on welding steel tanks. I'm sorry that
I am not able to thank every person individually who offered assistance. Fear
not for I am no fool. I plan on having a professional perform the welding if
any will be done. I also plan on being a great distance away from the tank
when they try to weld it.

One piece of information which seemed to persists in the various hints is
that exhausts gasses from a diesel (?) can render the remaining flammable
gases inert. Does nay one have any scientific evidence towards this end?
