Theres an exact length, I forget what it is, but I noticed that schedule 80 pvc wouldn't fit over my hatch strut but rigid schedule 40 would fit, then I realized I have two different struts, both original, one heavy duty and thus thicker, and one lighter and thinner. And Voila, the schedule 80 pvc fits over the lighter strut. So now I have both sides covered. >From: Dave Katsuki <dkatsuki@WORLD.STD.COM> >Reply-To: Dave Katsuki <dkatsuki@WORLD.STD.COM> >To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >Subject: Re: Hatch Strut Pain >Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 12:01:11 -0400 > >Remember the emergency weak strut fix: > >Take a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe the right length and cut a slot down one side >to fit over the strut rod when extended. >Keep it in the back near at hand and resolve each time you put it in to >order replacement struts from Ken or Ron. > >Dave >90 Westy (now I can do chin-ups on the open hatch with the new struts...) > > > >At 10:18 PM 6/27/01 -0400, Vicki Derrer wrote: >>"You >>haven't experienced pain until you have walked into the edge of the >>hatch that you didn't notice had dropped down six inches since you >>walked under it the last time!" >> >> April, 2001...
