Hello List - I currently own two Vanagons, one manual and one automatic. The manual is a '89 7 passenger van and the automatic is an '85 Westy. I am contemplating on doing a transmission swap between the two - I prefer to have the manual in the Westy and the wife would prefer the automatic in the passenger van. Here's my question - other than the usual stuff in doing the swap, I need to know if there is anything different with the torque converter flex plate on the 1.9 and the 2.1? Will the 1.9 flex plate work OK on the 2.1? As far as I can tell there isn't any difference - perhaps someone out there happens to know. Thanks!
