Up here on the northern edge of the country folks have been using all sorts of devices for splitting wood. One of the most interesting was a conical screw shaped wedge that you attach to the drive wheel(s) of your car. As it is on jack stands, you attach the splitting screw and after driving the wood onto the moving screw, splits it! I know what you're thinking, and we never owned one, to our defense... But all our northern neighbors had them and swore by them as they split chord upon chord. I do remember them running on US/Detroit vehicles - I don't know about a bolt pattern, though I tried to find a photo, but to no avail. Good luck on the pump!
