You all are going to have to trust me on this one:

It is possible (probable?) that the Schmoo Award has been hidden in my
subconscious for 4 decades.  After I got to thinking about it, which was
long after the Schmoo Award Concept hit the List, I vaguely recalled that Al
Capp's newspaper comic strip L'il Abner had some loveable creatures that
were called Schmoos.  They resembled an overstuffed pillow (sort of like 3
huge marshmellows), with a flexible body about 2' to 3' tall.  Their
personality was in accord with their appearance, devoid of any
distinguishing characteristics, but blandly mellow.

Can anyone shed some light on my musings, or am I still trapped in the
Twilight Zone?
