Does his valve look like this
http://pws.prserv.net/synergy/Vanagon/Autostop.gif ?  If so he probably
needs to replace it with a (much cheaper) manual valve and manual bleed
valve, or find a rebuilding kit for the existing valve (only if it is made
of brass and not zinc), or find another Autostop valve used.
