is there a difference between the thermostat housing for a syncro vs. a GL?

i recently put an '86 syncro engine in my '90 GL and am finding that the
elbow coolant hose
from the thermostat to the rigid coolant (manifold?) line  is coming up
short.

any info would be helpful
