Ken, it very well could be a dud. My son had to change his alternator
and went to the FLAPS for a rebuilt one. The first one didn't work right
out of the box, the second one quit in less than a day, and the third
one quit after three days. He was not a happy camper. He  bought a new
one from the dealer. It worked - no problem.
