Not clear to me that there are any nice camping sites in metro San Diego. We have stayed at Campland by the Bay, for something higher than $60 per day (your own stretch of parking lot with 6 feet clear on either side of the Vanagon. At least there were toilets! As the worst rip-off I have ever encountered, the De Anza Resort, Campground, hell hole ... $60 for a parking space in a pile of cluttered debris from old rusted trailers, complete with a construction site toilet. My advice, San Diego is not for camping. Stay at a private home, park at a motel or go up to any of the excellent sites outside metro SD. Oh, yeh, for a quite friendly place that is an upgrade from the De Anza Resort, try the police station parking lot or the local hospital. Frank Grunthaner
