Subject:Still konking out
From:Blake Thornton

Well, I tried some things and my 84 van is still konking out and I could
use some help.

Here's what is happening:
I'll pull up to a stop light and I see the red warning lights start to
flash. When I step on the throttle, absolutely nothing happens.

Today, when it happend, by the time I fiddled around with my bed cushin
and opened up the engine compartment, my van started idling as normal.

It also happens when driving down the road. In this case the problem
usually manifests itself by a quick death and the a quick rebrith. So,
the van surges as if taking your foot off the pedal and then quickly
stepping on the gas again.

Here's what I've done:
- I cleaned up all my grounds in the engine compartment (there is a set on
the left head and a set on the left firewall).
- I replaced both throttle switches, this was expensive and I thought it
could have been the problem. Aparently it wasn't.
- Fuel filter is fairly new

Any other ideas? I need to get my van running by next week as I'm trying
to get out of town for thanksgiving.

On a different note, my roommate's 84 van is having troubles that we're
trying to figure out too. When driving down the road, and when the rpms
are on the high end, all the dummy lights come on for a few seconds and
then go back off when the rpm's drop. This problem started happening at
the same time that his starter decided to be erratic. Sometimes the start
will not turn over but just buzz. Could these be related? Should the
starter be replaced?

Thanks a ton,
Blake
