Really only three choices -- the pump is not pumping the coolant out of the engine, there is a clog in the radiator or the lines, or the thermostat isn't letting the coolant back into the engine. Since the heater is working I vote for number three -- but the heater and the cooling loop run off different outputs from the pump, so I wouldn't let the pump entirely off the hook. Also the no-bleed suggests the pump, thus contradicting the heater. Does the bleeder bolt have a groove down the side, and/or did you remove it completely? And of course it would be very embarrassing to find that a rat had crawled into one of the big lines when it was open... :( Not much help, sorry -- but the system *is* deterministic. It's not simply cursed (though by now it may be very thoroughly cursed indeed, depending on your temperament <g>). d David Beierl - Providence, RI http://pws.prserv.net/synergy/Vanagon/ '84 Westy "Dutiful Passage" '85 GL "Poor Relation"
