Subject:(No VC) '74 Super Beetle
From:Gerald Masar

Since I have only one vehicle ('90 Westy), I've often thought about getting a backup.
I now may have the chance to buy a '74 Super Beetle. It appears to be in great shape,
although I have not really had a chance to go over it. Great shape, except it was just
in an accident, hit in the right front fender area. The fender and headlight are
demolished, minor damage to hood, but unknown (to me yet) damage to suspension or
steering. She was able to drive it home, 40 miles over winding mountain road.
Estimate from local body shop to repair all was $2,800. She has already bought another
car and is waiting word from the other party's (who was fully at fault) ins. co. She
said her husband talked about parting it out over the Internet. It's too good for
that! Just had a new clutch put in. Speedo doesn't work, but has something less than
100K miles.
An Internet search shows these classics to be pretty pricey. I have the tools, manuals
and the ETKA and could probably do most of repair myself.
SO, any ideas about it's worth, as is, or how to steal it?

Thanks,
Jerry
