As far as I know the Golf 2 never had a Scirocco, the Scirocco 2 was based on the Golf I platform as well as the original Scirocco. The Golf 3 notchback was only (?) called Jetta in the US, here in Europe it was called Vento. The Golf 4 notchback is called Bora in Europe and to further complicate things there are both Golf and Bora station wagons... /Markus Samuelson -98 Audi A3 TDi -88 Vanagon DoubleCab 112i -88 Vanagon DoubleCab Syncro 112i -87 Vanagon PanelVan Syncro -92 Vanagon PanelVan Syncro and lots of other vehicles made by VW -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com]On Behalf Of Andrew Grebneff Sent: den 28 november 2001 11:23 To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: need info on converting to Audi 4 wheel disc brakes > calipers from a Golf3....( What is a >Golf3? ) Can't remember the years, but... Golf 1, the original hatchback, beginning 1974 (butchered and called Rabbit in North America). The handling benchmark (excluding North American cars, which had sadly detuned suspension). Generic single or dual round headlights (ugly mismatched rectangular in later Rabbits). Still manufactured in South Africa. Pickup version called Caddy; notchback called Jetta (yet-tuh). Coupe called Scirocco. Golf 2, second-generation Golf (first model sold as Golf in North America). Lost the handling abilities of first generation. Generic single or dual round headlights. Pickuop discontinued. Notchback Jetta. Coupe Scirocco. Golf 3 (carried on nonenthusiast's nonhandling tradition introduced by Golf 2). First version offered with VR6 engine. Flush ovalish this-model-only headlights. Notchback ?Jetta. Coupe Corrado. Golf 4 - current mode, still lacking handling ability (this includes New Beetle version). Notchback called Vento, I think (still Jetta in USA). Coupe discontinued. -- Andrew Grebneff 165 EvansSt, Dunedin 9001, New Zealand <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Ph: 0064 (3) 473-8863 fax: 0064 (3) 479-7527 1986 Toyota Corolla 1.8DX CE80 diesel sedan 1989 Toyota Corolla 1.8DX CE96 diesel van 1989 Toyota Corona 2.0D Select CT170 diesel sedan 1992 Toyota Estima Lucida 2.2 turbodiesel MPV (=narrow "Previa") 1984 VW Caravelle GL (to be fitted with 260hp Subaru SVX flat-6 & Porsche G50 trans) Seashell, Macintosh, VW & Toyota van nut
