You know you're a Vanagon driver when . . .

- you've got 60 emails in your inbox and half of them are about what colour
to paint wheel rims
- most of the others are about pop-top colours - and somehow this evolved
from the rims discussion
- the service station attendant puts petrol in your oil filler
- your van quantum leaps across two lanes because of a cross-wind
- you're disappointed that the driver of the other Vanagon doesn't return
your frantic wave
- you drive up a hill
- it's time to do the heads - again
- you get a speeding ticket and thank the police officer
- you wake your passenger to tell them you just overtook another vehicle
- your working Vanagon is parked in the street because the non-working
Vanagon is taking up the driveway and the garage is full of Vanagon parts
- you have trouble deciding whether to send your car to the mechanic or your
son to the doctor
- you get a sinking feeling in your gut every time you drive past a
jack-hammer
- your partner tells you that you can't buy another parts Vanagon
- you note that a replacement water tank / battery indicator for your westie
is going to cost US$180 - and you buy it anyway
- you use your stove for comfort heating ("It is unsafe to use cooking
appliances for comfort heating.")
- you have three heaters in your car - but only one of them works
- your .sig reads "'87 Syncro Westie, '86 Westie, '85 Vanagon"
- other drivers smile when they see you
- your mechanic SMILES when he sees you
