I find it difficult to believe that a belt-driven pump can deliver the same power output as the original EFI setup (which still uses a mechanical pump, note). The EFI control unit will alter the injection timing with rpm, so giving close to the ideal timing; this will give max power/torque throughout the rev band, and may also be able to enable a much higher redline (belt-driven-pump engines run out of puff because of the fixed timing). The belt-driven pump cannot do this and will oerate with fixed injection pulses, so that the power/torque uotput will be ideal at only one fixed narrow rpm band, as in any other "normal" old-style diesel. The importers of used EFI diesel 3.0 Toyota 1KZ-T from wrecks in Japan bring them in sans electronics, and claim that they make just as much power with an ordinary pump tacked on; to say this is to the seller's advantage, obviously, but I doubt it's anywhere near the truth. -- Andrew Grebneff 165 EvansSt, Dunedin 9001, New Zealand <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Ph: 0064 (3) 473-8863 fax: 0064 (3) 479-7527 1986 Toyota Corolla 1.8DX CE80 diesel sedan 1989 Toyota Corolla 1.8DX CE96 diesel van 1989 Toyota Corona 2.0D Select CT170 diesel sedan 1992 Toyota Estima Lucida 2.2 turbodiesel MPV (=narrow "Previa") 1984 VW Caravelle GL (to be fitted with 260hp Subaru SVX flat-6 & Porsche G50 trans) Seashell, Macintosh, VW & Toyota van nut
