Just another thought -
       For cool clean air (ie. not from engine compartment), take snorkel off
but seal area around filter cannister, so air comes only from pillar.  That
should be easy, with felt, fiberglass, foam fill, etc., and would provide
extra sound/vibration protection.  I think I will try this myself.
       My only concern would be water buildup, so I will coat everything and
provide a drain hole or something.  I'll let anyone who cares know how it
goes when I get around to it.
