So if there are no used or new parts in Mexico for the Vanagon, what does
one do if they are down Mexico way and the van breaks down?

Note that the wasserboxer, nor for that matter later type 2-4 aircooled
pancake engines, were not made or sold in Mexico so used spares are not
about. No vanagons either.
