My van didn't have a stock tach, it came with a clock (non-GL model). I connected the 12 volt lead to the "P" terminal on the rear of the fuse block, and the ground wire to the multi-tab connector behind the fuse block.

I will pull it out and test it out in my Jetta to see if it works there.
