Check the 10mm nuts that hold the shifter down. I had several of these
come loose. Eventually the shifter doesn't work anymore. You can see them
from underneath after dropping down the spare tire pan.

Subject: Gear shift linkage?
Help! Just tried to shift into first at a red light, something felt like
it
fell out from under the front end of my van, and the van makes grinding
noises when I try to accelerate and I can't go anywhere - does not get into
gear.
Had it towed to my house. Tow guy thinks it's the gear shift linkage in
the
front. Any adivice on repairing this, or any other ideas on possible cause
would be greatly appreciated!!!
