Yosh and all, About the cylinder head studs on the wasserboxer: The new oem replacement head studs sold as a part by VW are supposedly improved. My source explained that they are supposed to stretch and contract better with the engine, as it goes through its heat cycles. This helps to prevent internal and external cylinder head gasket leaks. I don't know if the improved head studs were ever factory installed in any model year. When I did a top-end cylinder head job on my '90 westy, I replaced all the cylinder head studs with new oem as a preventative. That engine has been holding up really well, and I've put well over 45,000 miles on it since. I think replacing the cylinder head studs is often overlooked by rebuilders, because it's pretty pricey and tricky. I think any rebuilt wasserboxer should include all new cylinder head studs. VW used the material strengthened more than early models so that the engine head stud-bolt of 91'Westy might avoid their breaking. I want to confirm this. Does anyone know this thing? Any helps?
