JJ, welcome to the list!

I currently use 27x8.5 R14 Firestone Firehawks on my '85 and have no
clearance problems.  My '85 sits almost as high as a Vanagon Syncro but I've
seen that size tire on the low '89 Westy.

As for the rest of the items I am sure others will pitch in with info.
