Subject:Temp sensor failure-->warm start troubles: 1.9L WBX

hello Again listees -

With your help I think I have isolated the problem. My 84 westy won't
warm start easily. So it appears I need a new temp sensor. BTW John
Baker's little short cut to the solution works most of the time: " I have
discovered a way to help with those warm starts until I can get around to
replacing that sensor. When your engine is warm, turn the key "on"
(injectors injecting) but don't engage the starter, and wait about 15
seconds in this position before turning the motor over. After this time,
I turn and give one little push on the accelator pedal as I engage the
starter and it generally fires right up!"

So, this sensor is located on the t-stat housing, right? And which one
is it? There are two on mine, the one on the left much larger. Is it
the nut attached to the t-stat housing that is the failed sensor?

Another question about how these things work: I experimented with the
engine warm by removing the two sensor wires and waited a couple minutes.
Engine wouldn't fire up, and usual gas odor. So is the default setting
in the computer set for cold starts and if sensor says "I'm hot!" then
computer adjusts fuel ratio?

Finally what is it called that I need? I'll probably order via Bus Depot.
I have heard some say Temp II Sensor. I have a 1984 1.9L WBX.

Thanks for your time,

Les
