Dear Vanagonites, Phil appreciates all the expertise on this list. As near as he can tell, there are scratches in the glass. Running a fingernail across them shows that they are definately in the glass. Since there it seems unanimous that there is no coating there, I have to figure that either there was dirt on the dog's paws, as was mentioned, or the dog's paws are higher on the hardness chart than anyone thinks :) I will try some fine steel wool, and see if I can make some of them less noticeable. The car is hardly worth a new windshield to me, and I don't carry glass insurance so trip down the freeway looking for rocks is not an option <g> but its a good idea........ In the darkroom, when a negative is scratched, I can still use it by 'filling' the scratch with any one of a number of solutions. Maybe there is something I can use to "fill" these scratches and cut down on the light bending so I can drive it when the sun is high. Very much obliged for all the great ideas. If one of them does the job, I will be sure to let you all know how it came out. Regards, John
