Well folks I solved a few problems. I discovered that the hex bolt size was
8mm, but my M10-1.25 is apparently the wrong thread. It went on wtih soem
difficulty and got more dificult so I backed it off and removed the nut.

As I suspected I stripped the nut threads. The bolt must me fine threaded.

Does anyone know? I'd rather not go through trial and error to discover the
correct nut size. If no one knows I suppose I can go to the VW dealer
instead of FLAPS and pay double for the darned nut.
