Check Ken Wilford's site (vanagain.com) for a trouble shooting procedure for the fan switch. The fan in my '85 comes on so seldom that it usually startles me. A couple years ago I was stuck in Rod Run traffic in Pidgeon Forge and the fan kept kicking in. Checking my Digitool I noticed that the fan kicked in when the Temp II reading hit .5 and shut off when it went to .7. Since I replaced the coolant, water pump and thermostat (routine maintenance no problems) it doesn't get to the LED except when I'm stuck in traffic for a long, long time.
