Chris,

Scuff the whole grill with 320, or just a 3-M scuffing pad, paint it
flat black with some Krylon.
The idea behind the scuffing is so the paint has some biter's to hang on
to---

I then masked off the black, and did the perimeter with Polish chrome---

Looks good--been on there for at least 2.5 years---
