Colin... I rebuild syncro tranny's for $1795 with a 3 yr warrnty. Check

If you local dealer only want's $1000 to $1600 for a rebuild...that is a
very reasonable price. Most dealers just swap with an exchange for about
double that. Yours will almost certainly need a 3rd gear set along with
the typical 3/4 slider assy (and all the bearings of course.)Make sure
they figured the 3rd gear in with their estimate and aren't lowballing
the price
