Let this be a warning to everyone with an ancient automobile: YOUR WIRES ARE ROTTEN!! I had a problem with this for a year or so, and it took a guy with a computer to tell me that my wires were rotten. Cured all ills in one shot. I replaced mine with the big fat copper ground wires they sell at Home depot for lightning rods. Then the bolt rotted, and I had to drill and tap a new hole.
