The shift bushing above the gas tank is where you need to get the grease. It is easy with the tank removed-I haven't tried to do it with the tank in-it looks difficult.
You will be amazed how your shifting improves by greasing this bushing.

Subject: Gearshift lube job

My manual trannie shifter squeaks and squeals when I shift. Sounds dry as
the Sahara in there.

Can I re-grease the ball joint on the stick shift where it goes through the
floor without disassembling the shift linkage and mechanism and therefore
having to readjust the shift linkage?

Can I just pour some oil down there instead of using the grease? I works
great when it rains, telling me that water sprays up and "lubes" it.

I think readjusting the linkage is beyond what I have time or inclination
for now. Paying someone isn't my preference either.

Thanks,

Steve
