Subject: gas tank recall Question

I have an 84 westy that needs a new gas tank. I've heard that there was a
recall on these for their gas tanks years back. I have contacted several VW
dealers and customer lines but they don't have any records from that far
back. The Dealers did say that if I can get some kind of proof of the
recall, they would replace my tank for free. I have not been able to
contact the original owner. Can anyone help me?
