I had an automatic Hyundai Excel (was a cheap car when I needed a cheap car) that had tranny problems. It shifted early, the shifts were soft, and I was sure the clutches were gone. Then I replaced the thermostat to solve an active temp gauge. The tranny problems went right away. Does this apply to your situation? My thermostat was stuck open.
