the recall campaign is number SU, and is dated February 1994.
the phone numbers given are 800-822-8987 (vw of america, in michigan)
and 800-424-9393 (u.s. dept of transportation, washington, d.c.). it
applies to only the non-campers, however.

Hector, I had my local dealer make this repair. The actual parts VW provides in
the kit are two flat steel rectangular plates with some misc. hardware. The have
to do it for free. You can buy the kit from them and do it youself, but I wanted
the dealer to do it so I would have a warranty and somebody to bitch at besides
myself if something went wrong.

A word of caution if you have a dealer do it for you. In my case the AC duct
actually had fallen out of the ceiling onto the floor and had fractured and
broken some of the flange where the pieces fit together when installed. So much
damage, that the broken and missing chips allowed air to pass out of the duct
where the duct piees fit together. If you have any damage at all to the duct
pieces as a result of falling, those duct parts must be replaced (there is no
way to repair those broken edges adequately). They will tell you that it's not
part of the repair, but stick to your guns. The damage to your vehicle is the
direct result of a faulty design/installation in the first place and all aspects
related must be taken care of when the official fix is made.

BTW, the official repair seems quite strong and I am satisfied with the results.

Good luck,
