Gotcha! I knew the title would grab ya-  what I heard last night in he driveway in a downpour was the central locking system in the '87 going haywire-all the locking motors were whirring away until I found the fuse to stop them.  
Since this is the first Vanagon with central locking I have owned, I haven't studied how it works yet and the PO said it needed to be connected and wasn't working. Sure works now!   

I have a Bentley if it's in there I haven't found it yet. Wiring diagrams yes, but what relays control this.
