The wobble should be minimal. The rear bearing sits in a nylon bushing. The rebuilds often use a cheap bushing that will wear or creep out in time causing the bewaring to come loose. The rotor will hit the stator coil and may cause some damage. The alternator may also whine from the rotor being miss-aligned. If you have 1/4" of play, it should be repaired to avoid a sudden failure. Hello, In all the time I've had my van the alternators ALL had some wobble in the shaft, even the rebuilt one I got had a littttttle wobble. The one in my van right now has like...maybe 1/4" wobble in the back bearing, it runs fine, with the belt tightened up. Is this a common thing with the atlernators or did I just get a weird rebuild! If it is WACK, then WHO makes a rebuild that won't develop wobble and where can I get it! Joe 90
