Thanks to everyone who responded.  I ordered a tow-hook mounted class 1
hitch from Johnson's Foreign Parts (1-888-VW-PARTS) for $53 plus UPS ground.
The local Harbor Freight has trailers starting at just $139 for a 3.3' x 4',
and even a nice, folding 8'x 4' for $229.  They have a motorcycle rail for
$45.  Good deal.

A VW camper with a KLR or CR on the back....what a great combo!
