yes you can use your orig drivers seat. you can still acess the ebrake and
shifter, i used to have a 4spd 9pass vanagon and had no probs with the
placement of the seat.   you will, howver, need to devise some sort of
bracket to hold the seatback in the upright position as the bench front seat
relies on the bulkhead (metal wall) to hold it up..
